Play-based curriculum, 100% in Spanish

At McKee, children learn the Spanish language the same way they learned their first language—by interacting in fun activities with a loving adult who speaks the language.

In a day at McKee, children will rotate through 25-30 minute hands-on language-rich activities in six centers taught in a 100% Spanish immersion setting. There are no language exercises, memorization drills, worksheets, or dialogues like other dual immersion  programs or bilingual preschools.

Instead, preschool age children at McKee will prepare and eat a snack in Kitchen activities, play “cat and mouse” in Games activities, build a toy catapult in Shop activities, make a piñata in Art activities, play kickball in Gym activities, and act out Jack and the Beanstalk in Drama … all in Spanish, unlike other dual immersion programs which confusingly switch between two languages. 

Each activity center provides a different setting needed for children to learn a wide variety of vocabulary and grammar through practice without even being aware that they are learning it. This teaching approach allows for total fluency, quickly. Unlike bilingual preschools or dual immersion preschools because the focus is on naturally learning the language.

Our Spanish Immersion Preschool

McKee Language Systems goes beyond mere Spanish immersion (or even dual immersion). Our students learn to speak, not just understand. Each class contains these important components:

• Small group sizes. A maximum of 8 children are in each class (in beginning levels) so that each child can receive individual attention necessary to practice speaking throughout the day’s activities.
• Trained teachers. Trained teachers model the Spanish language preschool children need to say throughout each activity so children are able to start practicing Spanish from the very first day of class.
• Research based curriculum. McKee Language Systems uses 23 Basic Mobilizing Concepts identified through Dr. McKee’s years of research that speed up the language-learning process. These concepts quickly give children speaking proficiency in areas of communication most important to the child. Learning these key concepts helps children avoid the “language plateau” often observed with children in other dual immersion preschools or bilingual preschools.
• Fun and interactive activities. Because everything is in Spanish at the schools, activities have to be fun and interesting enough to keep the children’s attention. McKee Language Preschools has hundreds of hands-on activities that are optimized to be language-rich for young children.
